Question by Richard V: Do You Believe Rev. Wright’s Claim that the U.S. Government Was Capable of Inventing the HIV Virus?
Tuskegee Experiment on 400 Poor blacks:

“For 40 years, the U.S. Public Health Service has conducted a study in which
human guinepigs, not given proper treatment, have died of syphilis and its side effects,”
Associated Press reporter Jean Heller wrote on July 25, 1972. “The study was conducted to
determine from autopsies what the disease does to the human body.”

“The Public Health Service, working with the Tuskegee Institute, began the study in 1932.
Nearly 400 poor black men with syphilis from Macon County, Ala., were enrolled in the
study. They were never told they had syphilis, nor were they ever treated for it. According
to the Centers for Disease Control, the men were told they were being treated for “bad
blood,” a local term used to describe several illnesses, including syphilis, anemia and fatigue.

For participating in the study, the men were given free medical exams, free meals and free burial insurance.”

I have agreed with many of Rev. Jerimiah Wright’s comments including that the United States is Imperialist; but inventing HIV to infect the black population? Your thoughts?

I don’t know if it was intended for the black population, but I do think it is not being addressed as much as it should be because of “who” if affects. Look at Katrina–noone seemed to care about the black people suffering there either.

  1. HIV isn’t limited to a few blacks held in some remote military base. It is a world wide disease. And blacks are not the major carriers.

Wright stirs racial tensions for financial gain.

  2. I didn’t even bother with your links. The Tuskegee Experiments were very real. There is reason to believe that AIDS is a genetic engineering marvel. However, the rumors have always purported that it was invented to destroy the gay community. It was called Gay Cancer, I believe, when it was first “discovered.”

  3. Capable, yes. Did the US government do it? No.

In the book The Tipping Point, the author suggest that there is evidence that HIV/AIDS existed long before the 1980s in Europe and Africa. It wasnt until air travel made it so easy to travel around the world that it spread internationally.

  4. Truthfully, it sounds pretty far fetched. This is the first time I heard of this. I think the Rev. has hurt Obama in his chance to win this election. I know its a free country and he can say whatever he wants but this man loves the limelight. Obama said today he doesn’t even know this man anymore. The media has Rev Wright on tv more than Obama. I’m tired of this sensational spectacle when real issues are forgotten.
